This month’s Times Nature Notebook starts with a report on the excellent work that the RSPB have doing restoring habitat for dunlin and golden plover in the Peak District. This work has recently been written up as a pamphlet by the RSPB and also in British Birds:
Carr, G and O’Hara D (2015) Breeding Golden Plover in the Peak District National Park. British Birds Vol 108 pp 273-278.
My thanks to Dave O’Hara for showing me the RSPB’s work at Dove Stone. Detail of the RSPB reserve can be found at https://www.rspb.org.uk/discoverandenjoynature/seenature/reserves/guide/d/dovestone/
My Second article is based on a thought-provoking article by Emeritus Professor Trevor Beebee who junks categorically the Government’s Great Crested Newt Policy.
My final (main article) explains the work being done in the Rivelin Valley, to the West of Sheffield, on long tailed tits. Fascinating stuff the details of which you can track here https://www.shef.ac.uk/aps/staff-and-students/acadstaff/hatchwell
